Exchange Server Disaster Recovery

Microsoft Exchange Server is a widely used e-mail server and calendar server developed by Microsoft Corporation. It runs on Windows Server running versions. The earliest version was known as Exchange Server 4.0, for which Microsoft has licensed the software. It supports different databases including Outlook, MS Exchange, and MS Lotus Calendar. This server includes the following features: Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft Sharepoint, Microsoft Business Center, Microsoft Online Directory Services, Microsoft Sharepoint (.Net), Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Dynamics GP, Microsoft CRM, Microsoft Dynamics CQ Reporting, Microsoft Dynamics NAV, Microsoft Dynamics SL, Microsoft Dynamics GP Web Services, Microsoft Vertabeler, Microsoft Sharepoint Online, Microsoft Dynamics SCC, Microsoft Dynamics UTM

Microsoft Exchange Server allows multiple on-premise and third party applications and data to be placed on its server. This server consists of two main components – Microsoft Exchange Server and Microsoft Sharepoint. These are the main parts of an enterprise server system (ES). These servers work as a unified platform for applications, documents, email, calendar, contacts, and other data that are required for company work and for business communication.

Microsoft Exchange Server consists of two major components:

the Microsoft Exchange Server client application and the Microsoft SharePoint tooling for the back end. The client application is installed on the server and connects with the databases and other necessary services for the organization. Microsoft SharePoint is a web application that works on the user’s browser and is integrated with Microsoft Office applications like Word, Excel and PowerPoint. It enables collaborative text editing and management of documents. On the other hand, Microsoft Exchange Server can be deployed as a browser-based, web-based or an online storage interface.

Microsoft Exchange Server can be used as a clustered, managed service providers by utilizing micro-clustered file hosting. Clustered service providers are less expensive as compared to a single managed service provider and also have the ability to make use of a software-as-a-service model. This reduces the cost of deployment and IT support for the organization. In addition, users do not need to set up a dedicated hardware to host their mailboxes, calendar, contacts and other documents on the exchange server.

To ensure scalability, elasticity and high availability of the services, Microsoft Exchange Server can be implemented as a virtual platform. Virtual platforms provide ease of access and allow users to easily test and migrate from on-premises Exchange to the virtual platform without having to incur any additional cost. By the same way, users can easily migrate their mailboxes and calendars to a new unified messaging platform hosted on the Exchange Server when they switch over to a new service provider. High availability is another advantage of using a virtual exchange server – it helps reduce costs and allocation of resources to critical applications and systems.

Microsoft Exchange Server has integrated connectivity services to increase connectivity and improve usability – including support for upcoming standards such as XML Internet Message (MSMSM), Rich Internet Application (RIA) and HD Directory. These services help users access calendars, contacts, mailboxes, emails and other items on their mobile devices. The availability of these services ensures that organizations can manage mobility and access items on their mobile devices without facing any issues. To further enhance the usability and portability of the exchange server, integration with mobile devices is made easy by Microsoft Exchange Mobile.

Microsoft Exchange Server also offers improved performance and security.

A number of enhancements and security improvements have been introduced in the previous version of Microsoft Exchange Server to help it adapt better to the fast-paced business environment. For instance, Microsoft Exchange Server running on Microsoft Windows Server 2021 has an advantage over previous versions because it provides a number of pre-requisites, which make it more reliable. To provide improved performance and security, Microsoft has introduced two new features to the product – Microsoft Exchange Server Migrations and Microsoft Exchange Server Protecting Virtual Machines (VEV).

  • Another major addition made to the product in the form of Microsoft Exchange Server is the availability of Microsoft Exchange Server Virtualization.
  • This is ideal for companies that need to run different versions of Outlook in order to take advantage of cross-platform functionality.
  • By migrating data between the two different servers, users will experience improved performance and scalability.
  • To provide an even greater level of customization, Microsoft has introduced Microsoft Exchange Server 2021 Mobile for iOS and Android devices.
